Eladio Saenz Quiroga was born in Monterrey, Mexico on December 13, 1931. He completed his primary studies at Edmundo de Amicis School from 1937 to 1943, and then he studied in Junior High School No. 1 from 1943 to 1946, the High School No. 1 from 1946 to 1948. Then, he studied Civil Engineering and later he got a bachelor’s degree of Mathematics from the Universidad de Nuevo Leon from 1948 to 1958.
Saenz Quiroga participated in summer courses of mathematics at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico between 1958 and 1967. He did graduate courses at the University of California, USA, from 1961 to 1962; at the University of the Republic, in Uruguay in 1966 and in the Primer Coloquio Nacional de Matematicas (First National Colloquium of Mathematics), in Oaxtepec, Morelos in 1968.
Some of his most notable works include various topics of Applied Mathematics in the journals of School of Civil Engineering, School of Economics, of the Sociedad Matematica Mexicana (Mexican Mathematical Society) and the Asociacion Nacional de Profesores de Matematicas (National Association of Mathematics Teachers).
His published texts are: "Matematicas para economistas", Fondo de Cultura Economica; "Problemas de Optimizacion, Programacion Lineal", (Enhancement issue programing) Printing of the Faculty of Economics, UANL and "Apuntes de Historia de las Matematicas" (Notes of mathematics history) which is currently in process on the School of Physics and Mathematics.
His teaching experience is extensive: since September 1951 until today he has been teacher of Mathematics in Preparatory School No.1 and 3, in the School of Civil Engineering, Economics, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering and Physics-Mathematics and in the School of Economics, in the Universidad de Coahuila.
He was also professor in some master’s degree at the School of Civil Engineering, Economics, Architecture, School of Mexico, UNAM and the training of mathematics teachers, from the Escuela Superior de Agricultura Tropical in Tabasco. He is currently emeritus professor at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon.
Throughout his life, Saenz Quiroga has held several management positions: Secretary of the School of Mathematics from 1959 to 1964 and from 1964 to 1969; Director of the School of Economics from 1964 to 1965 and in 1971; Director of the School of Physics and Mathematics from 1969 to 1971 and Coordinator of Mathematics at this faculty from 1974 to 1979.
He has held honorary positions including member of the Technical Committee of Trust, CONACYT, Government of the State of Nuevo Leon, and Scientific Research of the UANL from 1972 to 1976. He was also member of the Governing Board of the UANL, from 1976 to 1987, where he served as Secretary from 1977 to 1980 and was finally Dean of the School of Economics.
Eladio Saenz Quiroga is an example of dedication and effort in university life and especially in the teaching of mathematics, which is the reason why the School of Physics and Mathematics recognizes his works.
